Pentaerythritol uses
1.Pentaerythritol is mainly used in the coating industry to manufacture alkyd resin coatings, which
can improve the hardness, gloss and durability of the coating film.
2.It can also be used as the raw material of rosin resin for paints, varnishes and printing inks, and
can be used to make dry oil, smoldering coating and aviation lubricating oil.
3.It is also used in the production of medicine and pesticides.
4.Pentaerythritol contains four equivalent hydroxymethyl groups with high symmetry, so it is often
used as raw material for the preparation of multi-functional compounds. Pentaerythritol tetranitrate
can be prepared by nitration, which is a high explosive; Pentaerythritol triacrylate can be obtained
by esterification and used as coating. It can also be used as a flame retardant of adhesive. It can
be used with ammonium polyphosphate to obtain intumescent flame retardant. It is also used as a
crosslinking agent of polyurethane to provide branched chains in polyurethane.
